Church History

Our Church was organized in 1836 by the Abingdon Presbytery under the leadership of the Reverend Alexander Mcuen. The first building of hewn log was located ten miles east of Saltville and was named Pleasant Grove. By order of the presbytery the name was changed to Rich Valley Presbyterian Church and was moved seven miles farther east and the present building was erected on land donated by Elder Franklin Grayson. The brick building was erected in 1858. Dr. J.B. Bittinger was the first elected and installed as pastor in 1896. Other pastors have been R.D. Carson, C.M. Chumley, John Martin, C.M. Pullen, R.R. Ramsey, D.M. Monroe, Lundy Barcley, Odis Mcneil, Rockwell Smith, Carl H. Stark, Howard Crowder, Jeff Jones, and current pastor Rich Cardot.
