Church History
Our Church was organized in 1836 by the
Abingdon Presbytery under the leadership of the Reverend Alexander Mcuen. The
first building of hewn log was located ten miles east of Saltville and was named
Pleasant Grove. By order of the presbytery the name was changed to Rich Valley
Presbyterian Church and was moved seven miles farther east and the present
building was erected on land donated by Elder Franklin Grayson. The brick
building was erected in 1858. Dr. J.B. Bittinger was the first elected and
installed as pastor in 1896. Other pastors have been R.D. Carson, C.M. Chumley,
John Martin, C.M. Pullen, R.R. Ramsey, D.M. Monroe, Lundy Barcley, Odis Mcneil,
Rockwell Smith, Carl H. Stark, Howard Crowder, Jeff Jones, and current pastor
Rich Cardot.
